Studying never ends
In the field of medical devices and healthcare, scientific literature review is something that should be done as often as possible, to analyze similar or competitor products and to keep up-to-date with the state of the art in target diseases; however, let’s be honest: no one ever has time to do it.
The problem is that reviewing the relevant scientific literature is required whenever it is necessary to create a rationale for use for a brochure or protocol, introduction to a paper, post-market surveillance, etc.
Being up-to-date with the literature and having accurate and correct literature references on the medical aspect you want to address is the first step to quality work. The alternative is to copy-paste what others have already written… ten years ago.
